Who is Richy?
Richy has been teaching English since 2006, and is now a veteran.
Richy was raised in Guildford, England – a medium sized town in the south-east of England, about 40 minutes away from London by train. It isn’t a big town, but it is historical, and it has a lot of beautiful countryside nearby.
He has a degree in Computer Science from the University of Hertfordshire, where he specialized in software engineering and quantum computing theory.
After finishing university, he worked in a range of companies in the software and automotive industry, creating software as well as database systems, but ultimately he wanted to connect with other people.
He also has had an interest in the culture and people of Japan for a long time, and wanted to explore a part of the world that was so far geographically from his own, but culturally similar in others. Both Japan and the UK are island nations. Both have similar histories. Both have influence greater than their size. Both have similar manners.
Eventually, the pull of Japan became so great that he obtained his teaching qualification in 2006 and then found his first position in Kumamoto, in 2007.
Since arriving in Japan, he has taught English at Japanese elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, community centers, universities and private companies, including ALC and NTT.
He has been running his own classroom since 2014 and is constantly looking for better ways to improve his teaching method to give students the best results in the shortest time.
In his free time he enjoys doing exercise, listening to music, studying, cooking and making YouTube videos – uploading English tips regularly!
